A new survey reveals that 1 in 4 adults say they read no books at all last year. So where do you fall? How many books did you read last year?

I saw in the NYT that Madeline L’Engle has died. What a loss to the world of writing for children and young adults.

L’Engle visited King College to speak as part of a series called Friends of the E.W.King Library that went on for a number of years in the 80s. She spoke to campus and community guests and CHILDREN who came in large numbers to get her to sign their books. It was after ‘83 when she came because I remember that her talk was in the present dining hall (it opened in February 1983).

I also heard her speak at the Calvin College Festival of Faith and Writing more than once. If you haven’t read anything by her, I suggest _A Wrinkle in Time_–an amazing book.

_A Wrinkle in Time_ is better than memorable, winner of the Newbery Award. In the Times story, she is reported to have said, “Of course, I am Meg…” Another favorite of mine by her is _Ring of Endless Light_. Both are in the Library.
